Marchamo

Counterfeits can copy your label. They cannot copy the record.

Register every item you make. Record each handover with two signatures. Anyone who scans the label sees whether it is genuine — free, forever, with no app to install.

Marchamo is in development and taking its first pilot customers. The registry runs today on a development network; nothing has been deployed to a public one yet, and this page says so rather than implying otherwise.

The problem

You already pay for this. It just isn’t on an invoice.

Nothing forces a producer to act on counterfeiting, which is exactly why it goes unaddressed until it is expensive. Three costs most manufacturers recognise:

  • Fakes moving through your own channelA distributor or a marketplace seller lists product you did not make. Your customer buys it, and your brand absorbs the complaint.
  • Warranty claims on goods you never soldYou pay to service items that were never yours, because there is no cheap way to tell at the counter.
  • A recall you cannot scopeYou know the lot. You do not know where it went, so you withdraw far more than you need to, or far less than you should.

How it works

Three things, and a phone does all of them.

Your staff sign with the fingerprint or face unlock they already use. There is no seed phrase, no wallet, and nothing to install on a computer.

STEP 01

Register a batch

Scan or enter the codes for a production run. Each item gets a label and its own entry in the register. That entry is created once and can never be edited afterwards.

STEP 02

Hand it over, twice signed

The sender signs that goods left. The receiver signs that they arrived. Nobody can be handed custody without agreeing to it, so the chain is a record of two-sided facts rather than one party’s claims.

STEP 03

Mark it sold

The retailer closes the chain at the point of sale. From then on, a scan tells a shopper the item is genuine and accounted for — and tells you if the same code turns up somewhere it shouldn’t.

What a shopper sees

A scan, and a straight answer.

No account, no app, no fee — for anyone, forever. Every scan is an advertisement for you, and it costs us a fraction of a cent to answer.

The figures above are an illustration of the shopper’s page, not a reading from a live ledger. When the registry is deployed publicly, this becomes a real scan of a real label — because a page selling proof has no business faking one.

What stays private

The ledger is public. Your business is not.

Most systems that promise transparency achieve it by publishing your data. Ours publishes fingerprints — short mathematical summaries that prove a record exists and has not been altered, and reveal nothing about what it contains.

Your product codes, serial numbers, lot numbers, customers and volumes are encrypted. The keys are held by the parties you authorise, and by nobody else — not by us.

  • A competitor learns nothing. Not your distributors, not your monthly volumes, not your recall history.
  • Your staff are pseudonymous. The record shows that a particular person signed. Only you can say who that person is.
  • We cannot read your records. We hold ciphertext. A breach of our systems discloses nothing readable.
  • A shopper still gets an answer. Verification needs no key, because the label carries what the check requires.

Why it lasts

If we disappear, your record does not.

Every competitor in this category keeps your proof in their database. If they are acquired, change their pricing, or simply shut down, the evidence you spent years building goes with them. You are not buying a record; you are renting one.

Marchamo writes to a public ledger that we do not own and cannot alter. The proof stands whether or not this company does. That is an uncomfortable thing for a vendor to build, and it is the entire point.

The record isn’t ours to change. That is what makes it worth something.

We will publish what we run on, what it costs, and what happens to your records if this company folds — before you ask.
